Artist Statement:
"Sunset Park Santos... the same but different.
For years I have noticed altars in and around Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where I now reside. Some are well maintained while others appear forgotten. I have chosen to focus on the altars in and around the area because each statue is part of the cityscape and therefore unnoticed. These photographs highlight the peculiar and sometimes extravagant differences between these silent structures.
Shooting digitally has given me the perfect photograph each time. It is for this reason I feel the need to challenge it. Using different tools to push/pull shadows, highlights & colors to the extreme, I have purposely exploited the editing tools from some products like iPhoto, Picassa, Lightroom, as well as Photoshop, Adobe RAW to enhance the mood of the picture. By agitating each impression in different programs using an array of filters, information is carved out then stretched. As a result, the virtual canvas becomes distressed -sculpting pixels in to the final image. "
